Today’s Story

A disciple once complained, “You tell us stories, but you never reveal their meaning to us.”

Said the Master, “How would you like it if someone offered you fruit and masticated it before giving it to you!”

No one can find your meaning for you.

Wisdom Quotes

One of the things Very Spiritual People like to do is get into God as a game of Trivial Pursuit. They like to be “God experts” and they know all the tiny little facts about God that might trip you up if you just wanted to go over and say “Hi, God” at the garden fence.

In their world, God doesn't go over to the garden fence. … God lives at the center of the maze and you can get to God only if you know all the secret handshakes and passageways and passwords.

I call these people Spiritual Experts, and you'll know when you meet one.

*Julia Cameron. Some People Say … God Is No Laughing Matter. “Spiritual Experts―How Many Angels Can Dance In This Joint?”

Contemplative Musings

Modalities of communication of indirection are the best forms of spiritual teaching. Indirection urges the listener to seek for an answer, rather than being given an answer. This is one reason I like to write poetry. Poetry inspires the reader to seek; poetry often baffles into doubt, doubt then being the springboard for seeking. Story, parables, and artwork are other forms of indirection. These evoke from us Truth already present in the universal Mind in which our mind participates.

Yes, there are many “spiritual experts.” I call this over-dependence on teachers "guruitis," but it has subcategories of "pastoritis, popeitis, spiritual celeberityitis, ...”

Yet, a person must come to his or her own understanding of Truth. In one way, there are no spiritual experts. In another way, each of us must be his or her own Teacher. The wise Teacher helps the other be his or her own Teacher.

No, I am not saying certain sources and persons are not viable and important guides. The key word, however, is guides.
